The Rule Activity (must/mustn't)

Level: Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate

Activity: Pairwork, Group work

Aim: To introduce rules using must/mustn't

Time: 10 minutes

Procedure:
- students work in pairs or small groups of three
- teacher writes the name of a place of institution on

the board (e.g. church, this classroom, pool, cinema)
- teacher sets a three-minute time limit and asks

students to brainstorm the rules applying to that

place
- teacher writes or rewrites the rules on the board

using TL and discussing them with students
